Cheadle CC charity challenge for 2022 for 4Louis

Once again club members are setting out to get fit for the summer and support another fantastic charity over the next few months.

4Louis is a charity established in December 2009, following the stillbirth of the founder’s son Louis.

3rd Team Division 8 Champions!

Cheadle CC 3^rd XI travelled to Crewe to take on their 2^nd XI knowing that two bonus points would guarantee promotion from Division 8 but also that a victory would see them finish the season as champions.

Having won the toss Crewe elected to bat with Cheadle knowing that four wickets would acquire the bonus points required.

Cheadle replied knowing that a successful run chase would see them crowned as champions and it could not have got off to a better start with 15-year-old Degg, ably supported by Akram putting on 88 for the first wicket in good time before Akram was bowled by Luc Parry for 21.

Following the game captain Justin Welford paid tribute to the players throughout the club, ‘It has been a season with plenty of challenges but the lads have been brilliant and I couldn’t be prouder of them.

Cheadle Not Letting Go Of Talbot Cup

Cheadle have Andy Coxon’s grit and determination plus another magnificent all round bowling performance to thank for a sixth Talbot Cup triumph for the club on Sunday.

Winning the toss and batting first Cheadle got off to a steady start but after Ali Khan’s dismissal for 16 found themselves in a bit of trouble at 50 for 3.

Coxon carried his bat for a magnificent 80 not out off 117 balls holding the innings together with a selection of clever stroke-play and great running between the wickets on the large Burslem ground.

The visitors knew they need to make early inroads into the Burslem top order if they were to defend their total and it was James Sellers (2-23) and Will Dobbie (1-25) who did the damage as the home team were reduced to 29 for 3.

Austen Crump and Ryan Harvey were the men who seized the opportunity as the home side went from 95 for 3 to 118 for 9 in a few manic overs.

Latest Cheadle A massive win in the Moorlands derby was the highlight of Cheadle’s weekend before they came up just short on T20 Finals weekend at Audley on Sunday.

Despite great runs in the cup competitions, Cheadle have been short of wins in the second half of the league season, but they threw off the shackles and produced a dominant performance to grab a maximum 23 points at Highfields.

Batting first Cheadle got themselves into a great position after the early loss off Andy Coxon as Matthew Sellers (30) and Austen Crump (50) took the score to 97 for 1 before both fell within an over of each other.

Will Dobbie took the new ball with Matt Goodwin and he immediately put Leek under pressure nipping out Alex Mellor and Sam Slater but it was the introduction of Jack Winfield that was the decisive factor in the afternoon.

On the following day, Cheadle went down to Longton in the T20 final as the Potteries side exacted revenge after the Bassetts had knocked them out of the Talbot Cup in the semi-final the previous week.

It proved to be insufficient as Longton won the game with 4 overs plus to spare, Riki Wessels with his wealth of first-class experience guided them home with 46 not out.

The 2^nd XI went down to promotion chasing Stone at Tean Road on Saturday.

The third team got a vital win in their division 8 promotion push at Woore on Saturday as they had an 8-wicket victory after being set a challenging victory target.

In reply, it was a 147-run partnership for the 2^nd wicket by the 2 Sam’s, Cliffe and Akram that was the game winner.

Latest Cheadle Cheadle 1^st team went down to back-to-back defeats last Saturday as they lost to Whitmore by 5 wickets.

Early inroads proved elusive for the Bassets though, despite throwing everything they could at the opposition, and it was only after Will Dobbie’s introduction that Cheadle started to make the task harder for Whitmore.

Better news for the 2^nd and 3^rd teams at the weekend as they both recorded victories.

The 3^rd teams amazing winning sequence continued but they were made to work hard by Hem Heath at The Pavilion on Saturday.

Meak Batting effort costs Cheadle after 20/20 romp.

Cheadle suffered a first league defeat since the opening weekend of the season as they went down at J&G Meakins last Saturday.

Cheadle battled away with the ball and Matt Goodwin took early wickets to reduce the home side to 19 for 2, but Sam Moores with 37 and Michael Hill with 27 made sure that they got home by 6 wickets with time to spare.

Things had gone much better on Friday evening when the 1^st Team won their first group game in this year’s Cricket Cave 20/20 knockout against Ashcombe Park.

The 2^nd team also suffered a defeat to Meakins on Saturday.

There were no such problems for the 3^rd team though, as they stay unbeaten at the top of Division 8.

Moorlands Classic At Tean Road

There have been some memorable local derbies over the years between Cheadle and Leek and last Saturday’s fixture must be ranked amongst the very best.

Cheadle won the toss and decided to bat first on what looked like a good track and they made the most of the opportunity with Andy Coxon and Dale Heath getting them off to a flyer.

It was looking like plain sailing for Cheadle after tea as Matt Goodwin and Sellers reduced Leek to 20 for 3 and 49 for 4 but newly appointed Staffordshire skipper Alex Mellor, with help from his middle order, got Leek right back into the game over the next hour and it took a couple of brilliant run-outs first by Charlie Goldstraw then Matthew Sellers to turn things back Cheadle’s way.

The second team returned to winning ways in Division 3 as they beat Stone by 2 wickets with a fine performance by the lower middle order after early wickets tumbled.

Stone made 146 but only used up 34 of their allotted overs as it was the Cheadle slow bowlers that inflicted the damage with James Jackson and Jack Winfield taking 3 wickets apiece.

The 3^rd XI continue on their merry way with another win at The Pavilion on Saturday.

ECB MVP Latest

Here are the latest details from the ECB for our club's MVP.

It was another win on the road for Cheadle 1^st XI on Saturday as they beat Stone by 3 wickets in a top of the table clash.

After a couple of early wickets it was Andy Coxon (37) and Ali Khan who provided the key partnership of the afternoon adding 99 for the third wicket In good time and this got Cheadle well ahead of the required scoring rate.

The 2^nd team fell to back-to-back defeats as Moddershall-Oulton won by 24 runs at Tean Road.

The 3^rd teams great run continues as they beat Stafford in the division 8 clash.

You can see the Wrekin from the ground at Moddershall-Oulton but the only summit Cheadle were interested in was the NSSCCL one as the first team gained a fourth win of the season on Saturday.

Batting before tea for the first time this season, the Cheadle innings stuttered along for most of the afternoon, and they were in serious danger of not making three figures at 83 for 8.

Moddershall’s reply was initially serene as they added 44 for the first wicket but Cheadle then wrestled themselves back into the match and when Sam Kelsall was out to Ozzy Crump for 47, things were back in the balance at 85 for 4.

The second team fell to a first defeat of the summer in the local derby at home to Checkley.

The 3^rd XI’s great run of form continued in another derby game against Oakamoor.

Saturday 3-peat but National Knocked Out

It was a 3-peat Saturday for Cheadle CC over the weekend as all the senior sides recorded wins in the NSSCCL.

Once again, the weather played its part over the weekend and it was only after much mopping up that a 33 0ver game was possible at Tean Road on Saturday.

Cheadle’s reply didn’t get off to the best of starts and at 12 for 2 before Andy Coxon (30) and Ali Khan added 73 for the third wicket in good time to put the home side on top.

The 2^nd teams unbeaten start to the season continued as they got the better of Wedgewood 1^st team in Division 3.

The 3^rd XI completed a win at Church Eaton in double quick time after the home side were dismissed for 43.

Sunday bought disappointment for the 1^st team as they lost at the first hurdle in the ECB National Knockout competition.

If anyone had said at Saturday lunchtime that Cheadle would win all 3 games by 7 'o clock they might have been thought of as a tad optimistic.

the 1st Team went 3rd in the table after a great bowling performance at Ashcombe Park followed up by an Ali Khan special.

The 2nd Team comfortably beat Crewe 1st XI at Tean Road.

The 3rds had a cosy win against Crewe with Joe Degg's 69* the standout as they went to the top of Division 8.
