It was a 3-peat Saturday for Cheadle CC over the weekend as all the senior sides recorded wins in the NSSCCL.
Once again, the weather played its part over the weekend and it was only after much mopping up that a 33 0ver game was possible at Tean Road on Saturday. Matt Goodwin won the toss and asked Burslem to bat first. It was another fine performance with the ball from the home side as they restricted the opposition to 130 for 8 from their allotted overs. Zen Malik threatened a big score but once he was dismissed for 42 the home side were able to exert control over most of the remaining overs. Goodwin finished with 3 for 21.
Cheadle’s reply didn’t get off to the best of starts and at 12 for 2 before Andy Coxon (30) and Ali Khan added 73 for the third wicket in good time to put the home side on top. Despite a couple more wickets falling, Cheadle won with 9 overs to spare with Khan making 78 from 62 balls as they went 2nd in the Premier League table.
The 2nd teams unbeaten start to the season continued as they got the better of Wedgewood 1st team in Division 3. The home side made 141 for 9 from 40 overs with Rizwan Ramzan making 73 not out. James Jackson and Will Riley did the damage with the ball with 3 wickets apiece. At 29 for 4 things weren’t looking great for Cheadle and when Jack Bullock (30) was fifth out there was still some work to be done. Mark Murfitt anchored the rest of the innings finishing with 37 not out and was assisted by Jack Degg (23) and Riley to see them home with time to spare.
The 3rd XI completed a win at Church Eaton in double quick time after the home side were dismissed for 43. Josh Jackson and Euan Bratt with three wickets each. It then took them only 4 overs to knock off the runs and they remain at the top of Division 8.
Sunday bought disappointment for the 1st team as they lost at the first hurdle in the ECB National Knockout competition. Once again, the weather did its worst and reduced the match to a 20 over-a-side affair in South Manchester. Timperley CC were able to make 163 for 3 from their allotment and this proved too steep a challenge for Cheadle as they finished 39 runs short in the chase.
