Chairmans Welcome

To everyone at Cheadle CC,

The summer of 2022 didn’t disappoint! More trophies, our best season for the junior section in years and of course the normal rollercoaster of highs and lows of watching cricket at Tean Road.

The 1st team continue to be the NSSC cup kings after a wonderful afternoon (and night) at Checkley where we beat the hosts and Porthill Park to win the T20 Cup for the first time in our history. That’s 3 major trophies in 4 seasons and shows that when we’re at our best we’re a match for anyone. 2 more Sunday cup wins in the Bailey Shield and Hassel Trophy show the depth of talent we now have at the club and this can only be good news going forward.

Our juniors had a stellar season with league championships for the U16’s, 14’s and 8’s and two other sides finishing runners-up. All that hard work over the last decade by our coaching team is paying off. More of the same this summer please! I’m also delighted to say that we will have boys and girls representing Staffordshire and Derbyshire this summer and we will also be introducing a new girls-only Dynamo’s group which runs alongside our All-Stars sessions. We believe at Cheadle that cricket is a game for everyone.

I’d like to wish all the skippers and their sides good luck for the season. A special mention to our new Saturday 1st team captain Andy Coxon, if his infectious enthusiasm and dedication to his own cricket is passed onto the side then it can only be good news for the club. A word of thanks also to Matt Goodwin who stepped down from the role last year. 2 years, 2 trophies so no pressure there Andy!

We are constantly looking to improve our facilities here at Tean Road. Over the winter we have resurfaced the car park to complete the renovation of that part of the ground. A long overdue piece of work but I hope it shows our commitment not just to the club but the town of Cheadle and our part in the fabric of the local community. Also, we will be live streaming our senior home games on You Tube and the club’s website this summer so even if you can’t make it to Tean Road you’ll still be able to watch the action.

I would like to thank our sponsors both old and new for their support and as ever, thanks to all of you who take the time to help, we are nothing without our volunteers and supporters. Our bar, house and grounds committees are the bedrock of the club and with our financial team keeping us all in check it was great to see despite all the expenditure, the club make a profit last season.

There’ll be club nights and fundraisers throughout the year, and we’d love you to come and support these events. It’s not just about money but bringing us even closer together as a club. Keep an eye on our social media for the details.

UP THE BASSETS.

Steve Plant.
